I sea pasta and I sea bacon will help your brain to get the needed minerals. In our current diets, many minerals are not consumed in sufficient amounts. Examples of these minerals are iron, zinc, selenium, copper and iodine.
In developed countries, we consume low amounts of table salt, dairy products, meat, fish and seafood. A lot of people take supplements to compensate this. Especially a shortage of iodine can ensure decreased cognitive function. This can be recovered by bringing some seaweed into your diet!
Iodine is a very important mineral. It stimulates hormones that we need for normal growth, our nerve system and normal metabolism. Especially the brain will dysfunction without enough iodine. After all, this is the most important organ in the nerve system! I sea pasta contains a lot of iodine, so it’s perfect to give your brain a boost. By the way: people say that without consumption of seafood back in the Paleolithic diet, our brain would not even have evolved to this level!
But there is another mineral in seafood that can boost our brain! There is tryptophan in seaweed. This can induce the production of serotonin in the brain. Serotonin is a substance that can improve our mood!
Both our products are very beneficial in preventing you from diabetes. I sea pasta and I sea bacon are full of carbs and very low in saturated fats. Moreover, they contain a lot of fibres as well.
The insulin insensitivity of our body is the precursor of diabetes. Many factors in our diet can worsen this. The state of insulin insensitivity is induced by too much sugar or fast released carbohydrates, that have high sugar peaks. Moreover, they can be induced by consuming too many saturated fats. Saturated fats can decline glucose uptake by cells, and thereby induce insulin resistance. Luckily, if you’re in this state of insulin insensitivity, the damage can still be reversed. You can do this by eating the right nutrients, like slow carbohydrates, fibres and unsaturated fats.
I sea pasta contains 15 grams of carbohydrates per 100 grams. These carbs are mainly very long chains of carbohydrates, called polysaccharides. Seaweed fits perfectly in a low carbohydrate diet. The main reason for this is that it contains ‘slow carbs’: carbohydrates that are broken down slowly by your body. This means that they release their energy in small pieces after each other.
Therefore, those carbs will keep giving you energy for a long period of time after you eat them. Due to the slow carbs, your body will not experience a high peak of carbs at one time. This is very beneficial for your blood glucose levels. It is called a low glycemic index, which means the speed at which sugars are released into your blood. A low glycemic index is proven to reduce insulin resistance, the main sign of diabetes. Therefore, our products do not only fit perfectly in a low carb and low caloric diet, but is also really beneficial for diabetics! It is beneficial to let it replace normal pasta, because that does give a high blood glucose rise.
Fibres in our products ensure that less quick sugars that were consumed in the same meal are excreted due to bulk forming in the intestines. Water is attracted to form a mass in the intestines. This makes it harder for the sugars to reach cells that have to take up nutrients. So even if you consume I sea pasta together with white pasta, the glucose peaks of that white pasta will be lower. -> fibres -> water attracted in intestines -> sugar can’t be taken up. Finally, fibres are broken down partly in the intestines. This leads to the production of substances that promote insulin release. And insulin will make sure your blood glucose peak is not too high.
I sea pasta contains a lot of good fats, which are the unsaturated fats. I sea pasta does not contain any saturated fats. This makes the unsaturated : saturated fat ratio very beneficial.
I sea bacon contains almost only unsaturated fats (only 0,3 grams of saturated fats per 100 grams), where normal bacon contains 14 grams of saturated fats per 100 grams. This makes the ratio unsaturated : saturated fats also very good for I sea bacon. This ratio has a major impact on insulin resistance
I sea pasta and I sea bacon keep your energy and vitality on a constant level. Fibres stimulate your gut flora, and the slow carbs and fibres prevent you from getting a dip. Moreover, you will get a lot of energy from the magnesium and iron that our products contain.
Are you often suffering from low energy levels? That is mostly due to quick sugars and quick carbs. They give a high sugar peak and quickly after consuming you will have a dip. Moreover, the energy level we have is determined by the process of digesting and absorption and the condition of our gut flora. Our gut flora is important for acquiring energy from nutrients by affecting the health of our cells in the intestine. Finally, essential minerals like iron, magnesium and vitamin B12 affect our energy levels.
Fibres stimulating our gut flora
The fibres in I sea pasta can have a positive influence on our gut flora. They also make the good bacteria grow. Therefore, we can get more energy out of our nutrition.
Slow carbs and fibres preventing the dip
Seaweed will prevent you from this dip. The main reason for that is that it contains slow carbohydrates. This means that they release their energy gradually. These carbs will keep giving energy for a long period of time after you eat them.
-> Slow carbohydrates -> slow energy release -> long energy
Moreover, the fibres in seaweed will ‘slow down’ the quick sugars consumed at the same time. The fibres in seaweed attract water to form a mass in the intestines. This makes it harder for the sugars to reach cells that have to take up nutrients. It will lower the glucose peaks after a meal, which prevents you from a dip.
-> Fibres -> water attracted in intestines -> sugars can’t reach uptake cells
Energy from magnesium and iron
Having a shortage of iron, magnesium, or vitamin B12 can lead to tiredness. A portion of I sea pasta contains your daily amount of magnesium and more than twice the amount of iron as spinach does. And a portion of I sea bacon contains more than your daily amount of magnesium and contains vitamin B12 as well!
Are you glucose or lactose intolerant? Or don’t you just want to consume these or any other additives? Then, I sea bacon and I sea pasta will come in very handy for you.
Many foods are processed these days, which results in a lot of substances in our food that we don’t want. Natural foods are free from all these additives or side nutrients.
Free from
I sea pasta and I sea bacon are free from glucose, lactose and any additives.
Unprocessed
Our products are unprocessed. This means that they come directly out of the sea. They’re only dried to keep them fresh for a very long time!
No e-numbers added
Contrary to normal pasta and normal bacon, I sea pasta and I sea bacon contain no added e-numbers. Why not? Because it is 100% seaweed!
If you eat gluten free, I sea pasta and I sea bacon are great products for you. You can use I sea pasta as a gluten free substitute for normal pasta. And also I sea bacon does not contain any gluten at all!
More and more people are gluten intolerant these days. Another group of people tries to avoid gluten in their diet for other reasons. Therefore, these people don’t eat any products made from wheat, barley and rye, like bread or pasta. Moreover, it is important that no products they eat have touched anything contaminated with gluten during production or processing.
But there is also another problem that affects people who don’t eat gluten. A shortage of iodine is very common among people with a gluten free diet. I sea pasta is a perfect solution for this.
I sea pasta is a pasta without gluten
If you eat gluten free, it is hard to find alternatives to pasta that are completely safe to eat. Therefore, I sea pasta is the perfect replacement for pasta in dishes!
I sea pasta and I sea bacon are not processed
I sea pasta and I sea bacon are seaweeds that come directly out of the sea and are only dried before putting it into the package. They cannot be contaminated with gluten and are completely gluten free!
We have a lot of iodine
Iodine is a very important mineral for our body, because it stimulates hormones that are needed for normal growth, our nerve system and normal metabolism. These days, iodine is only added to bakery bread (because bakery salt contains iodine). Therefore, for people with a low carb diet, obtaining enough iodine is hard. Seaweed is the perfect solution here, as it is a natural source of iodine. Only 1 portion of I sea pasta is enough to get your daily recommended amount of iodine (150 µg)!
I sea pasta and I sea bacon are very helpful for your gut health. They contain a lot of fibres and prebiotics, and don’t have any FODMAPs at all. Do you want to know why this is good for your gut health? Check out this article and learn why!
Intestinal problems are very common. 20% of the population suffers from irritable bowel syndrome. These people regularly feel bloated, have cramps and/or problems with their stool. Almost 50% of the people are not aware of this! So, there is a good chance that while reading this, you are also suffering from IBS! With IBS, part of the solution to your problem is eating fibres and eating FODMAP free. However, it is not always easy to eat a lot of fibres and to eat FODMAP free. I sea pasta can make this easier for you!
Fibres
Seaweed contains a lot of fibres, which are carbs that your body cannot break down. Therefore, they don’t give you any calories! It may seem as if they are not useful, but that’s not true. Fibres stimulate your intestines and help your stool by attracting water and improving motility of the intestines. Because water is attracted, and because fibres stimulate satiety hormones, you will feel really full after consuming seaweed. So if you are trying to lose weight by cutting on your calories, eat seaweed to fill yourself up with only a few calories, which can be handy if you are on a low caloric diet.
Prebiotics
Some of the fibres in seaweed are considered a prebiotic. Prebiotics are fibres that stimulate good bacteria in the intestines when they are fermented. Those good bacteria are very important for your stool, for getting energy out of nutrients and for the improvement of the immune system.
FODMAP
FODMAPs are specific nutrients that have to be avoided when you have sensitive intestines, because they cause gas formation. I sea pasta and I sea bacon don’t contain any FODMAPs, which means that they are a perfect replacement for other FODMAP rich products, such as normal pasta and normal bacon!
IOur heart health is determined by many factors: blood pressure, cholesterol levels and vessel health are some of them. Cardiovascular problems, like strokes and heart attacks are important consequences of a high blood pressure, bad cholesterol levels or affected vessel walls. To solve these problems and improve your heart health, I sea pasta has several benefits.
Nutrition has a big influence on all of these factors. Fast carbohydrates, such as plain sugar, can lead to damage on the vessel walls. High cholesterol levels from bad fats can damage the vessel walls and lead to obesity. And a high salt intake can lead to high blood pressure.
We do not damage your vessels
Contrarily to normal pasta, I sea pasta contains mainly very long chains of carbohydrates. We call them polysaccharides. This are carbohydrates that are broken down slowly by your body. This means that they release their energy in small pieces after each other. Therefore, those carbs will keep giving energy for a long period of time after you eat them. Due to the slow carbs, your body will not experience a high peak of carbs at one time. This is really beneficial for your blood glucose levels. Therefore, the product is really beneficial for diabetics! It can replace normal pasta, because that does give a high blood glucose rise.
We slow down the sugar peaks
Fibres in our products ensure that less quick sugars that are consumed in the same meal are excreted. This happens due to bulk forming in the intestines. This means that water is attracted to form a mass in the intestines. This makes it harder for the sugars to reach cells that have to take up nutrients. So even if you consume I sea pasta together with white pasta, the glucose peaks of that white pasta will be lower; I sea pasta slows down the fast carbs of your meal.
-> fibres -> water attracted in the intestines -> sugars can’t be taken up
Finally, fibres are broken down partly in the intestines, which leads to the production of substances that promote insulin release. And insulin will make sure your blood glucose peak is not too high.
We decrease bad cholesterol
The fibres in I sea pasta and I sea bacon will bind to bad cholesterol in your intestines that is taken in during the same meal or a few hours before and make sure they are excreted instead of taken up. Moreover, the fibres are broken down partly in the intestines. This leads to the production of substances that block the synthesis of cholesterol by your body. So together, the fibres in I sea pasta and I sea bacon will decrease the bad cholesterol in your blood.
We contain good fats, no bad fats
Contrarily to normal pasta, I sea pasta contains a lot of good fats, which are the unsaturated fats. Partly, these are omega-3 fatty acids, that are very important for our body, because they lower the blood pressure. And more importantly, they ‘remove’ the bad cholesterol and deliver good cholesterol. Therefore, they can prevent against cardiovascular diseases and improve your cholesterol levels. Normally, omega 3 fats are obtained mainly from fatty fish and oils. So, for vegetarians and vegans, I sea bacon is perfect to supplement your diet if you don’t eat fish and still want some omega 3.
Saturated fats are the fats that get ‘stuck’ in your blood vessels and are very dangerous for us. I sea bacon contains almost only unsaturated fats (only 0,3g of saturated per 100g), where normal bacon contains 14 grams of saturated fats per 100g!
Your immune system is very important. It keeps you from getting sick and protects you from bad influences from the outside. But your immune system can fail. By example due to a lack of vitamins, bad gut flora and a shortage of minerals. Our products can help you here.
Vitamins fix damage
You can support your immune system by taking vitamin supplements. But it’s more desirable to get these vitamins from food. When an infection occurs, damaging substances called reactive oxygen species are produced by the body to get rid of the infection. This is called an inflammatory reaction. These substances have to be removed by the body. And that’s why we need enough vitamins in our nutrition: they can adapt these molecules so they do not cause damage anymore. Seaweed has a lot of vitamins that will support your immune system.
Moreover, the immune function of the body is determined by your barrier functions on the skin and in the intestines. The latter one is determined by the bacteria in your gut, that have to be healthy to be able to protect you.
Supporting the gut bacteria
As a lot of external threats come into our body via the mouth (via food), our body needs to protect us within the gut, where the food gets into our blood. Therefore, our gut flora is important for protecting our body from external threats, like bacteria or viruses. The fibres in I sea pasta can have a positive influence on our gut flora, and make the good bacteria grow.
Seaweed contains bioactive substances & minerals
The bioactive substances, like carotenoïds, laminaran, agar and carrageen are proven to support the immune system. Evidence shows that those substances are in seaweed. Moreover, there are minerals in seaweed that might support our immune system, like iron, zinc, copper, selenium & manganese.
Low caloric diet
I sea pasta can help you in successfully following a low caloric diet. Such a diet is often followed in order to lose weight. By taking in less calories than your body needs, you will use your body’s stored energy (mostly fat mass) and therefore lose weight.
Unfortunately, there are some disadvantages to eating only a small number of calories. You can feel very tired, get a lack of energy and be hungry all the time. Moreover, you miss a lot of essential vitamins and minerals by cutting down calories. Note: we do not give any nutritional advices, but just want to let you know how I sea pasta can help you if you are on a low caloric diet. Furthermore, being on a low caloric diet for a long time is not healthy and we do not support that.
Seaweed fits perfectly in a low caloric diet. The main reason for this is that it contains carbohydrates that are broken down slowly by your body (for more information look at this page). This means that they release their energy gradually. Therefore, those carbs will keep giving energy for a long period of time after you eat them. That means that you can eat less calories in a meal, but still get energy for a longer time.
Seaweed contains a lot of fibres, which are carbs that your body cannot break down, and which therefore do not give any calories! It may seem as if they are not useful, but nothing is less true: fibres stimulate your intestines and help your stool by attracting water. Because water is attracted, and because fibres stimulate satiety hormones, you will feel really full after consuming seaweed. So, if you are trying to lose weight by cutting your calories, eat seaweed to fill yourself up with only a few calories!
Normally, people on a low caloric diet have to take supplements to get all the required vitamins and minerals. However, mostly you have to take a lot of those supplements to get all minerals. Moreover, it is preferred to get natural minerals instead of those put into a capsule. And we’ve got good news for you: seaweed is a natural source of a lot of different vitamins and minerals.
Low carbohydrate diet
We can help you if you follow a low carbohydrate diet. In a low carbohydrate diet, you avoid sugary foods and starches. Instead, you eat more proteins, fats and vegetables. This diet helps to lose weight and controls blood sugar levels. However, the downsides of this diet are having low energy levels physically and mentally, and missing essential minerals like iodine, that is mainly obtained from bread (which is not eaten in a low carb diet). With these lacks, seaweed can help you.
Seaweed, and specifically I sea pasta, has a lot of benefits that make it fit into a low carb diet.
I sea pasta contains 28.5 grams of carbohydrates per 100g of dried seaweed, which are mainly very long chains of carbohydrates, called polysaccharides. Seaweed fits perfectly in a low carbohydrate diet, for the main reason that it contains carbohydrates that are slowly broken down by your body. This means that they release their energy in small pieces after each other. Therefore, those carbs will keep giving energy for a long period of time after you eat them. That means that you have to eat less calories in that meal, making it fit in a low caloric diet. I sea pasta can be eaten as a pasta, without delivering all the fast carbohydrates that normal pasta does.
-> Slow carbohydrates -> slow energy release -> less calories needed
And besides that, fibres in I sea pasta and I sea bacon ensure that quick sugars that were consumed in the same meal are excreted due to bulk forming in the intestines. This means that water is attracted to form a mass in the intestines, which makes it harder for the sugars to reach cells that have to take up nutrients. So even if you consume I sea pasta together with white pasta, the glucose peaks of that white pasta will be lower. I sea pasta slows down the fast carbs of your meal.
-> Fibres -> water attracted in intestines -> sugars can’t reach uptake cells
Seaweed contains a lot of fibres, which are carbs that your body cannot break down, and which therefore do not give any calories! It may seem as if they are not useful, but nothing is less true: fibres stimulate your intestines and help your stool by attracting water. Because water is attracted, and because fibres stimulate satiety hormones, you will feel really full after consuming seaweed. So, if you are trying to lose weight by cutting your calories, eat seaweed to fill yourself up with only a few calories!
Iodine is a very important mineral for our body, because it stimulates hormones that are needed for normal growth, our nerve system and normal metabolism. These days, iodine is only added to bakery bread (25 µg per slice of bread, because bakery salt contains iodine). Therefore, for people following a low carb diet, obtaining enough iodine is hard. Seaweed is the perfect solution here, as it is a natural source of iodine. Only 1 portion of I sea pasta is already enough to get your daily recommended amount of iodine (150 µg)!
Seaweed contains a lot of fibres. 30.5 grams per 100 grams of dried seaweed are fibres, which are carbs that your body cannot break down. Therefore, it doesn’t give you any calories! So, although in fact fibres are a sort of carbohydrates, they will not give energy, but do satiate. Therefore, they fit perfectly in a low carb diet. For all the other benefits of fibres, look at this page.
Are you following a paleo diet, and getting tired of always eating vegetables? I sea pasta and I sea bacon are a perfect way to eat veggies while having the feeling of eating pasta or bacon! Moreover, a paleo diet can miss essential nutrients by not eating grain and milk products, like fibres and minerals like iodine (obtained from bread) and calcium. Seaweed does have these fibres and minerals!
Fibres
I sea pasta contains a lot of fibres (30,5% of its content!), which are carbs that your body cannot break down, and which therefore do not give you any calories. Fibres stimulate your intestines and help your stool by attracting water. Because water is attracted, and because fibres stimulate satiety hormones, I sea bacon will fill you up. So, if you are trying to lose weight by cutting on your calories, eat seaweed to fill yourself up with only a few calories!
Some of the fibres in seaweed are considered a prebiotic. Prebiotics are fibres that stimulate good bacteria in the intestines when they are fermented. Those good bacteria are very important for your stool, for getting energy out of nutrients and for the improvement of the immune system.
To solve the iodine shortage, we have a lot of iodine
Iodine is a very important mineral for our body, because it stimulates hormones that are needed for normal growth, our nerve system and normal metabolism. These days, iodine is only added to bakery bread (25 µg per slice of bread, because bakery salt contains iodine). Therefore, for people on a paleo diet, obtaining enough iodine is hard. Seaweed is the perfect solution here, as it is a natural source of iodine. Only 1 portion of I sea pasta is already enough to get your daily recommended amount of iodine (150 µg)!
Calcium
I sea pasta and I sea bacon are natural sources of calcium. Calcium is important for bone growth and maintenance. Especially elderly and people with osteoporosis need calcium very hard. I sea pasta is high in calcium: 1 portion contains almost 1/4th of your daily recommended allowance!
Supplements help us to get our daily number of essential vitamins and minerals. However, always taking supplements can be annoying, as you have to think about it every day. You will also need a lot of different supplements for different minerals. And it is also better to get minerals and vitamins out of natural sources. Seaweed contains a lot of essential daily minerals and vitamins, which can complement these supplements. So even if you don’t take supplements normally, seaweed can help you to reach your daily targets better. This can make you feel more energetic.
Just one source of all minerals and vitamins
Normally, to get all your daily needed minerals and vitamins, you would have to consume many different supplements. Almost no one does this, as most people assume that they get the right vitamins and minerals out of their nutrition. Therefore, seaweed can help to reach many of these essentials without having to take many different supplements.
Seaweed is a natural source
By eating I sea pasta and I sea bacon, you can get a part of your daily amount of many different vitamins and minerals.
Seaweed is not a declined source
Contrary to many other foods, seaweed experiences no decline in nutritional values. Information about the content of other foods is not always correct, as a lot of nutrients get lost during the breeding process. However, seaweed grows naturally and is enriched with many micronutrients that have really proven to be in there!
Seaweed fits perfectly in a vegan or vegetarian diet. Yes, even I sea bacon! A vegan diet is a diet in which no animal food is consumed, meaning no dairy, no eggs and no meat and fish. A vegetarian diet excludes all meat and fish, but does contain eggs and dairy.
Both diets have trouble getting sufficient omega 3, because that is mainly obtained from fatty fish. Moreover, vitamin B12 is missing (mostly in a vegan diet), because it can only be obtained from meat, fish and dairy products. In addition, vegans and vegetarians eat a lot of vegetables, which of course is very good. However, it can lead to a lack of some vitamins and minerals, because of not eating meat and fish.
Omega 3 fats are very important for our body, because they lower the blood pressure and more importantly, they ‘remove’ the bad cholesterol and deliver good cholesterol. Therefore, they can prevent against cardiovascular diseases. It improves your cholesterol levels, so it’s very good for a healthy heart. Normally, omega 3 fats are obtained mainly from fatty fish and oils. So, for vegetarians and vegans, I sea bacon or I sea pasta is perfect to supplement your diet if you don’t eat fish and still get some of the omega 3!
In a vegan diet, vitamin B12 is missing, because it can only be obtained from meat, fish and dairy products. Without vitamin B12, your body gets really weak and you get tired. That is why vegans have to supplement their diet with vitamin B12. Seaweeds, especially I sea bacon, contains vitamin B12. Even though this is not enough to replace supplements, it’s always good to have some extra vitamin B12!
Normally, vegans have to take supplements to get all the required vitamins and minerals, like iron, magnesium, iodine and calcium. However, mostly you have to take a lot of those supplements to get all minerals. Moreover, it is preferred to get natural minerals instead of those put into a capsule. Seaweed is a natural source of a lot of different minerals and vitamins.
We all know that it’s recommended to eat 250 grams of vegetables on a daily basis. But how hard is it to really eat this big amount? More than 50% of all European households eats too little. To get more variability on your plate while eating enough veggies, I sea pasta and I sea bacon are perfect!
Replace carbs for veggies
Without noticing you are eating vegetables, I sea pasta can get you your daily recommended amount of vitamin C, and half of your daily number of veggies (1 portion is >125gram cooked veggies)! So, while having the idea of eating pasta, you are actually eating veggies!
Replace meat and fish with veggies
While you feel like eating bacon, you are actually replacing meat for veggies. A perfect variation for in a vegan / vegetarian diet or for in a paleo diet!
Not only a healthy meat replacer, but also a sustainable one!
Eating meat and fish is not sustainable. Competition for land, water and energy is growing, as well as the overexploitation of fisheries. Moreover, the impact of the food system on the environment has to be reduced urgently, because else we will not be able to feed the world population anymore very soon. Therefore, we need nutrition with a low environmental impact. I sea bacon fits in there perfectly. It’s a sustainable meat replacer with a very low environmental footprint, as it grows in the sea and doesn’t need to be processed.
I sea pasta is very high in calcium: 1 portion provides you with 20% of your recommended daily intake! But I sea bacon is a natural source of calcium too. That means that both our products are very important for bone growth and maintenance. Because of that, elderly and people with osteoporosis need us very hard.
There are four different forms of carbohydrates: fibres, sugars and the less easily pronounceable oligosaccharides and polysaccharides. Except for fibers they all provide us with energy.
I sea pasta contains 15 grams of carbohydrates per 100g, which are mainly polysaccharides; alginate, some fucoidans and lamarin. Therefore, I sea pasta gives you energy even a long time after consumption, without giving high sugar peaks.
I sea bacon contains 21,2 grams of carbohydrates per 100g, which are mainly carrageenans, agar and xylans.
Sugars
The main sugar in our nutrition is glucose, which is not good for your health when you consume it in high portions. High glucose peaks in the blood lead to very high amounts of insulin released to get this glucose level down again (which is called a high glycemic index). However, if you expose your body to high glucose peaks very often, the cells producing insulin can stop functioning or the cells that have to take up glucose malfunction. Luckily, I sea pasta and I sea bacon contain no sugars at all!
However, to make sure your brain gets fuel, you do need some sugars in your nutrition. Besides plain sugar molecules (=monosaccharides), other forms of sugars are dissacharides, which are two sugar molecules bound together. These have a lower glycemic index, as it takes your body longer to break them down.
Oligosaccharides
Oligosaccharides are longer chains of sugar containing 3 to 9 molecules, with an even lower glycemic index
Polysaccharides
Polysaccharides are very long chains of carbohydrates, of at least 9 molecules. These are broken down the slowest and therefore have the lowest glycemic index.
Fibres
Fibres are a form of carbohydrates that is indigestible in the intestines. That means that they cannot deliver energy by take up of glucose, but they reach the intestines entirely. Once there, three things can happen:
They form a bulk by attracting water, which makes the stool more viscous. That helps to prevent you from constipation and will ease up our stool.
They are fermented by bacteria in the large intestine. That results in the formation of substances, short chain fatty acids, that have many beneficial functions: increasing insulin release, promote cholesterol synthesis, increase metabolism and help the immune system.
Some fibres can result in the growth of favorable bacteria, which are important for your stool, for getting energy out of nutrients and for the improvement of the immune system. These are called prebiotics.
I sea pasta is high in fibre, as it contains 30,5 grams of fibre per 100 grams dried weight, which mainly are the alginates and fucoidans. And I sea bacon is even higher in fibre, as it contains 7 grams more fibre per 100 grams dried weight than I sea pasta: 37,5 grams in total! I sea bacon mainly contains the alginates, agars and carrageenans.
Fats are a source of energy. We distinguish two different sorts of them: saturated and unsaturated fats. I sea pasta contains 2,7 grams of fat per 100 grams, is high in unsaturated fats (2 grams!) and contains around 0,2 grams of omega 3. I sea bacon contains 1,4 grams of fat per 100 grams, and is high in unsaturated fats as well: 1,1 grams of the fats are unsaturated!
Saturated
Saturated fats consist of fat molecules that do not have any double bond in their molecular structure, which makes them very ‘tough’. Eating these fats will increase the bad cholesterol in your blood.
Unsaturated
Unsaturated fats consist of fat molecules that have one or more double bonds in their molecular structure. The fats increase the good cholesterol and are able to reduce the bad cholesterol. Some unsaturated fats are especially good for our health, like the omega 3 fats that I sea pasta contains. They improve the good/bad cholesterol ratio and thereby protect us against cardiovascular diseases.
Omega 3
Omega 3 fats are a form of unsaturated fats of which the most known ones are alpha linolenic acid (ALA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). All fat molecules that are unsaturated have one or more double bonds in their chain of carbon atoms, which means that their form is ‘bent’.
Omega 3 fats all have the first double bond at the third carbon atom, and they have more than one double bond (poly unsaturated fats). ALA is an essential amino acid, which means that your body cannot produce it itself, so it needs to get it via nutrition. Your body can produce some EPA and DHA from ALA, but this is not enough, so you still need to get it from fish or fish oil. I sea pasta contains 0,2g omega 3 fats per 100 grams, of which 69% is ALA. This means that I sea pasta is a source of omega 3.
Fibres are a form of carbohydrates that is indigestible in the intestines. That means that they cannot deliver energy by take up of glucose, but they reach the intestines entirely. Once there, three things can happen:
They form a bulk by attracting water, which makes the stool more viscous. That helps to prevent constipation and ease up the stool.
They are fermented by bacteria in the large intestine. That results in the formation of substances, short chain fatty acids, that have many beneficial functions: increasing insulin release, decrease cholesterol synthesis, increase metabolism and help the immune system.
Some fibres can result in the growth of favorable bacteria, which are important for your stool, for getting energy out of nutrients and for the improvement of the immune system. These are called prebiotics.
I sea pasta is high in fibre, as it contains 30,5 grams of fiber per 100 grams dried weight, which mainly are the alginates and fucoidans. And I sea bacon is even higher in fiber, as it contains 7 grams more fibre per 100g dried weight than I sea pasta: 37,5 grams in total! I sea bacon mainly contains the alginates, agars and carrageenans
Iodine is a very important mineral for our body, because it stimulates hormones that are needed for normal growth, our nerve system and normal metabolism. These days, iodine is only added to bakery bread. It contains 25 µg per slice of bread. Therefore, for people with a low carb or a gluten free diet, obtaining enough iodine is hard. We sea the perfect solution here, because seaweed is a natural source of iodine! Only 1 portion of I sea pasta is more than enough to get your daily recommended amount of iodine (150 µg).
That is, 1 portion contains over 525 µg of iodine after soaking and cooking, and the maximum daily amount is set at 600mg. So this will cause no harm at all!
If you eat gluten free or low carb, you risk having a shortage of iodine. Then I sea pasta can help you reach your daily iodine requirements!
Iron is very important for supplying all our tissues with oxygen and for our metabolism. In regular food, it can be obtained mainly by eating meat, but also by eating bread and some green vegetables.
However, compared to these sources, seaweed is very rich in iron! For example: spinach contains 1,2mg iron per 100 grams, whereas I sea pasta has even 2,5mg per 100 grams! If you are a vegan or vegetarian, and it’s hard to get your daily amount of iron: that’s where we sea a solution because our products can help!
I sea pasta and I sea bacon are sources of magnesium. Magnesium is important for many processes in your body, under which energy production, muscle movement and your nerve system. You need a daily amount of 375 mg magnesium for maintenance of these functions. We can help you to reach that goal!
At least 20% of the entire population of Western Europe has a shortage of magnesium, and supplements can help people with a shortage.
